Chain/cassette and chain rings replacement parts

My chain/cassette and certain chain rings need replacing. The technical side of cycle specs is rather new to me so apologies for what is one of many stupid questions.
My cycle as been through a fair few evolutions and changes especially in terms of the frame but by my reckoning, its component parts are those from a Giant FCR 3 circa 2009.
On looking at the Giant website it says this in the specification:
Shimano R225 EZ Fire 24 speed with Shimano 2200 rear derailleur
FSA Vero triple chainset
Would I be correct in thinking that the above determines the choice of chain/cassette and perhaps chainring?
I am on a budget but I would be interested in hearing any suggestions about what alternatives there are and suggestions about what would be good choices for lightweight, high quality replacement parts.
Many thanks

if it's a triple chainset and 24 speed, then the cassette/chain are 8-speed (3 chainrings x 8 cassette cogs = 24)
according to http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bi ... tions_id=4
cassette SRAM PG 830 11/28, 8-speed http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-pg830-8-speed-cassette/
any 8-speed chain, fitting a kmc quick link is useful for ease of maintenance
crankset FSA Vero, 30/42/52
vero is square taper so any similar will do
you may find you can get an 8-speed square taper crankset for not much more (maybe even less) than the cost of separate chainrings, shimano 2303 for instance...

...if you do this, you also need to measure your crank arms to see which length they are if you want an exact match
instructions for everything can be found here http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help
you'll need a few tools to swap these parts, prices vary wildly so research/shop around carefullymy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Chainrings last for 10000 miles plus and through umpteen cassettes and chains, I would doubt any of the chainrings need replacing if you haven't replaced the cassette or chain before (as your post makes it sound like you haven't). Just replace like for like, in this case an 8 speed Shimano cassette and chain, probably go for KMC. Change up the ratios on the cassette if you fancy.Edinburgh Revolution Curve
