Tallboy2 carbon v Whyte t129s

I've just come back from doing the Beast in CYB with 3 others, all on 29ers, and got annhilated on my Whyte 46 26". I'm now convinced that 29er is the future and will need to get on the bandwagon next season!
I would like to stick with Whyte, especially as the 129s got best trail bike awarded to it this year, BUT I got pasted by a mate on a carbon Tallboy2, who I usually leave for dust. Any views out there on which one of these 2 I should go for? Thanks

there is more to cycling than the bike - although is your bike really suited to such a long slog?0

Is there not about a 3k difference between the two bikes and ask yourself if you were on a road bike that you could have bought a house for would Wiggens and Frome pass you if they were riding bmx's???0

Are they? I thought that the manufacturers had decided that 29ers are the past now...
