Hi guys. purchased a set of crud racers last year installed them and removed them shortly after due to rubbing. I am running 23mm tyres and wouldn't have imagined tyre rub. Any recommendations on an alternative replacement would be appreciated,

Race blades maybe ? I use them on my Trek but not my Wilier (too precious for the rain !!) bu I could try them on it later and let you know. I have an Izoard
  • That would be much appreciated, I to have the izoard but have just purchased a kuota Khama so the wilier has been demoted to my winter bike. Still a stunningly capable bike.

    Cheers Chris
  • Very gud mmacavity but not the reply I was expecting. Keep up the gud work though.

SKS raceblade longs have just gone on my CAAD.

Coming from cruds last year, my initial impression is that they are certainly better.

Just changed from crud to raceblades and I think they are much better especially after changing to 25 tyres. The Crud's are supposed to rub though that's part of the design.

"Gud" should be spelt "good" by the way.
  • I was just being lazy zardoz Thanks for the reply though. I will check them out. :D

They fit against the quick release and brakes, initially a faff but as a bonus nothing touches the frame so less chance of rub marks...
  • Thanks Ipete and they are the SKS raceblade longs am I right In saying. Look remarkably acceptable as far as mudguards go.

    cheers.

As promised, I swapped them onto Wilier and they fit fine. They are not the long ones but I doubt there's a difference in fit. The shorter ones are fairly effective and I'm quite happy with them.
  • Your a good man dsoutar . thanks very much for that I shall order a pair of the short version right now.

Not sure how much difference they would have made today.50km in torrential rain but I bought a goretex oxygen jacket last month and I'm determined to get some use out of it ! its very effective but the bottom half was utterly drenched.
  • Ha! Have not ventured out this weekend just don't see the appeal of driving rain combined with 35mph gusts, maybe I need to man up. I have had my eye on the Goretex oxegen jacket for a while. gets rave reviews if a little on the pricey side. I would be interested in your views/opinions on this jacket.

As I said, an excellent jacket. Top half was bone dry, even after a 1km descent in driving rain at about 60km/h so it certainly got a good test.

However even at the discounted price I got it at of £130, is it £100 better than my Castelli rain jacket ? Hmm, not sure. I'd have to go out in similar conditions to be able to make that sort of judgement
  • You'll be better off spending £20 on guards rather than £200 on clothing.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

    This.

Also FWIW - I rode my Izoard through last winter with Raceblade Longs on.
