I'm looking for some hints & tips please...

I cycle to work in all weathers, all year (exceptions severe weather) I wear a Helmet and clear glasses.
OK now my problem

When cycling in wet weather rain does the obvious, runs from the head down/over face and you get wet. I'm finding that when rain gets in my eyes it stings like hell, so much that I either have to stop cycling or cycle very slow.
Glasses don't help so suggestions welcome bar carrying a hand towel lol.

head band, sweat band or any absorbent material that you can place against your forehead.
Also - peaks - either on the helmet or on a cap that keep the rain off to start with ...

    failing that a squeegy ...

little peaked cycling cap under the helmet - it's what they are designed for and they look pro when worn for intended purpose (see velominati rules for procedures :) )

i had some ski gloves that were waterproof and had a little rubber blade on the thumb that was great for clearing glasses, i think they were from TK Maxx. Were a bit warm if it wasnt too cold though.

  • There used to a Scottish goalie- I think it was Jim Leighton- who smeared a line of Vaseline above each eye brow to stop rain and sweat going in his eyes as he wore contact lenses! Personally, I think the cap option sounds better.

Buy Oakley Windjackets, the gasket will keep everything out of your eyes.

Or just wear a cap under your helmet.

  • Stop wearing hair gel? It wont be rain stinging your eyes its whatever over marketed hair styling gum,wax or clay that you clog it up with.

And no just cos I'm a baldy doesn't mean I'm jealous of everyone with hair! :o
