Best tyre for the south downs

Yo pedal pushers,
Im getting some new mtb tyres, I roll 26inches and I live on the south downs
I ride pretty much everywhere but places that my current tyres suck are mud, chalk (especially chalk that s_it is lethal) and snow.
I've heard good things about medusas, but heard they are whaff on anything rocky or rooty, which I come across regularly.
I dont care how fast it rolls I just want something that sticks like crap to a kids blanket. All suggestions are more than welcome!

Nothing grips on wet chalk.
Medusas are only good in really boggy mud.
I ride on Salisbury Plain occasionally and thats chalk, High Rollers worked as well as anything but still not great.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Yeah im not expecting tyres to physically put its fingers round a root to keep me up, but there is a big difference between something being totally whaff on anything slippy and not as whaff, where I can actually ride down a descent with chalk rather than walking like a mug0

All mud tyres are crap on roots. The big spikes mean minimal contact area but mud tyres do grip wet chalk better than anything else.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I've found XR Mud a good all round winter tyre... excellent in the mud, not bad on the chalk (though nothing appears to to grip chalk when it is actually raining), and no worse than most on roots. In fact I rode most of 2012 on XR Muds as it was wet and miserable almost all summer.Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

Bont XR mud for me too. Brilliant for a mud tyre; on everything else. Roll really well. Kept them on for the first 6 laps of this years D2D as expected mud, handled the forrest roots and hard ground, just got a bit washy as the forrest sand started pile in the turns. Only swapped them as tired and found my continental x kings worse!Chinese All Carbon Hybrid, mixed with overdraft and research.
