Etape Loch Ness coming next May on closed roads

  • I like the idea of overtaking other cyclists.

At the moment most people out there kick my sorry ass.

Anyways, I guessed at a 15mph average which should be okay for me as a novice.

Entered this, looking forward to having this and Caledonia to look forward to! Will give extra incentive to build fitness for May!

Please please say you are going to do it on the Skinnymalinky. Would love to see that bike in the metal.

£55 seems a bit steep IMHO. I'd expect a T shirt and a post race massage with a happy ending for that price

I will be holding a special post event Skinnymalinky viewing where, for only £10, you can both come and look at it's provocative welds and filthy headtube badge.

In all seriousness, yes I should think I will be riding it. When you fly past me, say hello!

I thought the same tbh. You do get a T - shirt, medal, certificate, bcf insurance for the event, timing, food stops etc.

Suppose they have to cover the cost of the event and will be uncertain of take-up as it's the inaugural one.

I thought the same, but I suppose it is for charity.

  • Does anyone know if there is an age restriction on this. I fancy doing it with my son who will be 13 (the Etape Caledonia is over 18 only). We have ridden further than this with more climbing so he will manage it no problem.

Doesn't matter, the event is sold out.
  • I doubt they'll release any more places but if they do there is an age limit of 18.
  • Thought we could perhaps have a list of the forum members who have signed up for this, and what time they expect to complete it in.

I will start, please feel free to copy and paste the list into your posts and add your name if you're doing it.

Unixnerd, broke my wrist six weeks ago and anything over an hour's ride is a bit painful. Will be happy to get round in less than four hours under the circumstances and lack of training but aiming for 3 hours 40. My nephew's doing it too.

Just updated mine, the pressure of not being last was making me panic....

    So, I'm happy now. :D

When I used to run marathons I always said that the day I get overtaken by someone in fancy dress in the day I quit. I take it there's not the same issue in these sort of things...?

I'm sure I saw a guy in a pink fairy outfit (complete with wings) in the Etape Caledonia a couple of years ago...

There was certainly a dude in a kilt and a superman cape last year

Did a smidge over 64 miles today with about 3150ft of climbing with an average of 15.6mph (According to Strava) which i suppose is close to the Etap.

So my training is pretty much on track. How's everyone elses going...?

In a word, rubbish. Broke my wrist in early October so was off the bike much earlier than normal over the winter and lost a lot of fitness. Been too icy to risk the road bike for much of the winter up here. First 30 miler I did this year saw me trying to avoid cramp for the last ten miles! Very poor considering how fit I was last year. Been getting better every weekend in leaps and bounds but don't think I'll be ready for the big day, we'll see...

Read about a 70 year woman who's planning to do it and was ashamed of my weakness to say the least.

Must admit, had I realised it was a 6.30am start I don't think I'd have signed up. That'll see me getting up at 4ish to drive there in time and eat something.

Hope everyone else is faring better!

Yeah, I was a bit shocked about the start time too.

I guess that's the only way they got the roads closed -by being on them when everyone else is on bed.
