Thoughts on the Trek Crossrip Comp

I normally ride a Scott CR1 - standard carbon road bike with narrow clearances etc.

I was thinking about investing in a Cyclocross bike for commuting all year round, and for weekend rides during the winter.

Any thoughts on the Trek Crossrip comp? http://www.trekbikes.com/uk/en/bikes/ro ... rip_comp/#

I'm sure it will handle roads and paths ok, what about the likes of gravel railway paths? It has Claris instead of the 105 I'm used to on my road bike, but I'm sure it'll be fine?

    Perfectly capable Mark, I use a very similar bike on the very paths I suspect you are talking about.

    Plenty of other similar bikes around at the moment and others better value in my opinion eg

    I agree with the above post. Bike is more than capable of gravel railway paths. I saw a few blokes doing the London to Brighton off road ride on cross bikes. Much of it is on the downs link and there are some much tougher off road bits. I frequently ride gravel paths on my cross bike.
    Also agree about the value of the Trek. I was looking at bikes for around £1k that had 105 and BB7, so at that price I would hope to find Tiagra.

    Agreed actually looking at other marques I can get Sora or even Tiagra for the price as opposed to the Claris of the Trek.

    Thanks for the input.

    My only question now is shell out on a CX bike or something bargain basement like a Trek DS 8.1
