Afternoon All
I've just invested in a Spesh Secteur disc brake frameset to build into a light'ish weight travel / winter trainer bike. In my mind I've specced everything up apart from the wheels. I realise that the market is about to erupt with disc brake compatible wheels, but I need something to build my bike for a trip to Vietnam in December. I'm planning on running 32mm cross tyres whilst away but will want to run 25mm or 28mm when I get back whilst using the bike as a winter trainer - does anyone have any recommendations?
Cheers

The first recommendation is to run touring tyres and not cross tyres for your trip... cross tyres puncture far too easily and are not designed to run at a decent pressure. Something like Vittoria Randonneur trail will probably be suited for your trip.
Or these

You need something bespoke and if you want to carry panniers, you need 36 spokes. You also need a robust rim and hubs that can take some punishment, like Shimano XT. Hope PRO 2 EVO can be a lighter and more expensive alternative. Basically you need substance over styleleft the forum March 20230 -
Thanks ugo, appreciate the advice about tyres.
I won't be fitting panniers, the travel stuff is supported so main luggage follows in a van, but will need something tough - i'm no racing snake, so 36 spokes it is.

No need then, 32 spokes is plenty. MIne have taken 2 years of off road battering on a daily basis and they're still 100%. I have used Novatec 711/712 hubs (bit lightweight for your trip maybe)left the forum March 20230 -
I have Hope Pro Hubs with Mavic Open Pros, 32s front and back. I love them, can't fault them at all, I have even taken to the 'noisey' freehub.0
