we all know there are some pr*cks out there but the intention behind this is pretty awful

Keep your eyes open and if you find something similar, take it down and report it to the police and local council. I've removed cables and plastic strung across various cycle / ped paths in the last few weeks so it looks like it's the latest chava fad.

Another reason to stick to the roads.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

    Good point, well made.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

....And look at some of the comments below the articles. Good to see that motorists in Tyne & Wear are as stoopid as in London. It's all there - road tax, insurance, red lights, cyclists are a menace etc etc....

Never read article comments on a cycling story, it's bad for your sanity.

This is on my route too, in fact I rode that way a couple of hours after it was reported to have been removed. Went that way again last night, somewhat slower than normal. I haven't really encountered bother along there but you get a few drunks 'fishing' along the river. Possibly the same arseholes that were tying bottles and cans to the trees a few weeks ago for 'a laugh'.
