Morning all

I have some RF knee/shin protectors already, but they are pretty uncomfortable

The main gripe is the criss cross strap around the back of the knee, which over the course of the day gets pretty uncomfortable and needs adjusting constantly

Would prefer something similar to my 661 knee pads i.e. straps around the thigh

Liking the look of the 661 Rage (although ive read some bad reviews) and Nukeproof critical

Any recommendations ? would prefer hard shell, but this is not essential

Cheers

DCR

Troy Leet knee shin combo looks pretty good, I've read good reviews of the knee pads and they're completely strapless

Can't comment on the Nukeproof Critical knee/shin guards, but I have the Critical knees (which are the same as the top section of the knee/shin), and those are good - nice fit, don't move around, comfy and seem to have lots of protection (never tested them in anger, but I can knee my car hard enough to set off the alarm without hurting my knee, lol).

My LBS has just got a whole range of new 2014 661 pads in, those are worth looking at. I tried on the new Rage knee/shin, and those seemed comfortable.

I have 661 Rage pads and wouldn't recommend them. Poor quality, uncomfortable and they tend to move when riding.

Are they the older ones though? The range i was looking at today was all brand new 2014 stuff. The Rage knee pads I tried on were very comfortable and well secured:

They had them in the identical looking hardshell "Rage Hard" versions too.

These were a really comfy, unobtrusive pad too, and inexpensive - would be ideal for trail riding:

I've just seen these while looking for that link, and now I really want a pair, lol:

    thanks guys

The lack of lower leg strapping puts me off the 661 pads as you are relying on the strap around the thigh to keep them in place, and TBH i tend to use the shin strap to keep my existing 661 knee pads in place, so they look to me like they might move around too much

the lower leg strapping on the Nukeproofs looks way more secure

Not sure if they were 2014 or not, they are two months old.

Yeah, the 661 knee/shin that I tried on had no lower strap, just the stretch fabric sleeve. Can it be a sleeve when it's on your leg?... :?

I want them, lol. For some reason that colour option starts at 30" waist, rather than 28" in the others though.

Probably the older ones then, I would think. The 2014s (as in my link) have just landed at my LBS this week, first time I've seen them anywhere.
