Peaky Blinders.
Why hadn't I heard of this? Why is no one talking about it?
It is brilliant and I am only 2 episodes in.
If you've not heard of it get onto iPlayer.

Of course you may be to busy with celebrity dancers singing on ice in a locked room but if youve got a spare hour or so....
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Thats what happened to me. Glad I was told about it.
I would put it on a par with Boardwalk Empire.

I'm from around those parts and spent the first 15 minutes of each episode trying to get over the dodgy accents. it is really good so far though; very enjoyable . Do you think Thomas has got a thing for the barmaid, or is he just testing her?

I've recently been exploring my family tree and have discovered that my mum's grandfather lived on Garrison Lane in the late 19th century. I think it's inevitable that he would have been aware of or seen some of what was going on back then. It's been interesting to trace them moving from house to house as each census goes by. They never moved far from Deritend/Small Heath area in about 40 odd years.

As with a lot of these dramas there seems to be some artistic license as, according to a pre-eminent local historian, the gangs had pretty much died out by the end of the Great War.

Having said that it's very watchable.

Just watched the first episode. It is good but the accents are a bit off putting.

    This ^^

If your from the midlands and you watch this, you have to pretend it's not set in this area, else you'll not be able to watch it.

Probably a fair comment but that is no problem for me.

I have to say, I thought it was a complete load of rubbish.

I was not impressed at all.

Seems like on this forum I am in the minority (again)

I've not watched it for this reason. I can't stand tv brummie accents they're horrific, to the point that if I see someone on tv that's actually from near me I find them hard to spot.

The story is really good and visually it's great, it's the brummie Cornish hybrid accent.

The accents aren't *that* bad... I've lived in the Black country and I've heard about the same level of variation.

No you're not, I'm a Brummie and the accent is appalling, better speech coach needed or better actors.

Empire Boardwalk is a couple of levels below Once upon a time in America.

Peaky Blinders is not much better than Coronation Street.

    Just my opinion.

What is currently the best thing on TV right now in your opinion?
    Serious question.

Best thing on my TV right now is the bowl of fruit!

There is very little on TV that I make a point of watching.

    Fair point.
Which is why for all its faults, Peaky Blinders is about as good as it gets just now.

I watched it last night after all the rave reviews here. I thought it wasn't that great apart from Sam Neill's performance.

But seeing as I am currently watching Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead - Peaky Blinders is a bit of a let down.

Just because there are no good programmes on TV, it doesn't make this one brilliant

What sets Breaking Bad apart from the others is the screenplay. I have to say that the first season is good without being great but the second season is just amazing. Well recommended.

Then again not everyone likes the same thing but Breaking Bad is up there with the best ever IMO (i.e The Wire)

Dunno how many of you guys watched this all the way to the finish, but I thought it was really good. Not sure about them doing a second series though. I prefer they leave good things alone.
