Hi all,

I am reaching out for advice for a waterproof rear rack bag that may hold documents. The minimum compartment dimensions that I am looking at is anything larger than ( 33cm (l) x 26cm (w) x (h) ) in order to fit my document folder, laptop within a case, etc.

I do have a bike rack which already has a "Basil Mara 26L Double Pannier Bike Bag" on it, which I hope to place the rear rack bag over.

Many of the bags that I had been looking at were either too small, or has side-pockets (which falls down like a double pannier) for further space extension, which I do not need.

Although I had been reading around about the bad idea of placing sensitive electronics in such bags, I thought it wouldn't hurt to have a look around anyways.

The closest candidate that I've stumbled across was the "MTX Trunk DryBag", but it requires a dedicated topeak rack, which I do not have. I've only got a conventional bike rack.

Please let me know of any alternatives, if any.

Thank you.

ps. I've also been looking into foldable plastic baskets, but sadly they don't keep the water out...

    I have the 15 inch version of this: http://road.cc/content/review/18599-alt ... se-pannier

The 15 inch one is a bit different though, a fair bit smaller and 'upright' rather than 'landscape' if you see what I mean.

Really well padded and waterproof. A bit small if you want to carry other stuff too, but that seems to match what you are looking for...
  • Hi Arthur Scrimshaw and apreading,

Thank you for your suggestions. Sadly, what I am looking for is not a pannier (bags that hang off the side of the rack), as I already have one. What I am looking for is for a bag that sits on top of the rack, similar to : http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?pa ... duct_id=62 and http://www.evanscycles.com/products/alt ... k-ec008440 , but these products are not large enough to hold A4 document folders nor laptops.

Looking forward to more suggestions though. Keep them coming, thank you all!

Cant see you finding a rack top bag that fits A4 - it would have to be very tall and probably impractical?

I have the Carradura and it isnt at all well padded inside either - the sides arent too bad but no padding at the bottom - you would need to add some serious padding on the bottom if you wanted to put anything of value in there as it will be banged against the rack when you go over bumps. The ones that hang on the side are much easier to protect stuff as they dont get banged so much.
  • Thank you for your advice about not putting anything of value in the bag though, I can see your point.

But I'm wondering if there was a rack-bag that I could lay the A4 file flat (parallel to the ground), or sideways (which the bag would need to be quite long), rather than vertical. Though I'm not very optimistic at the moment from what I've found.
  • I have the toppeak pannier bag with the drop down panniers. It will fit my IPad although at an angle so being about the same size as A4 I guess you would be able to fit it. Yep the rack is an extra expense but I find it great to be able to slide it onto my bike and I'm away, the downside is the fancy slide must weigh more the a standard pannier but I didnt care about that.Whilst I rarely use the pannier sections they are handy to store tools in (folded up) and if you need extra space you have that option.
