Apparently to help Bjarne Riis and the Saxo team to carry on as normal the coming season Alberto Contador has agreed a drop in salary from €3.3 million to €2.5 million. If this has already been reported by somebody else then my apologies i didnt see it.

Bloody hell, how is he going to scrape by on that? Still, if you consider his results in 2013 he should be on basic wage next year. 35.000 euro isn't it?

I think we at bike radar should organise a collection for Alberto. Obviously as you,ve said how will he get by on that, i can,t imagine.

Amazed he was still on that much after his ban or did his contract protect him against such misdemeanours?

And if your consider his results previous to that, he has been paid peanuts..

I mean.. Come on... There's not one rider in that peloton who's paid enough for the effort that is a being a pro cyclist.

You are right, he is being paid silly money.
  • Perhaps we (and his employers) are seeing his real potential without chemicals coursing through his bloodstream. His clean results this year were not up to a pay demand of over 3 million Euros.

I'm not sure how much all the high rollers in the peloton earn, but there are quite a few that have arguably had worse seasons than Contador: Gilbert, Evans, Wiggins etc.

Contador's alleged 4.5m was the highest I've heard. Cavendish is said to be not far off that.

Specialized hasn't renewed the contract with Bjarne Riis yet. Kemo Bikes say they'll announce which team they'll sponsor on November 15.

Guess what Bert is doing tomorrow?

He's going to some kind of event with Kemo at Monza....
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.
  • After their poor year Bjarne must have decided they need an extra *cough* boost *cough*. The extra 1.2m euros will buy a lot of special steaks

Kemo Bikes are revealing the pro cycling team they are going to sponsor on the 15th. Although Contador is meeting them, I think they are going to work with the new ViniEpotini (Yellow Fluo?), hence the colorscheme and model name of their bikes.

He is also meeting ppl on tues, wed, thurs and fri in different countries. Never heard of kemo bikes.

Specialized pay Contador 2m a yr so he will be riding a Spec unless that deal is broken.

TWH was going to do an identical post to yours. He doesnt have a sprint or final km red zone or else he would be even higher. He also would be higher if he played defensive in the Tour...not the type of rider he is tho.

He said it was an awful year for him and he considers this race the first for 2014...he has good sensations.

Bertie's last big season 2014. His value is much diminished now pre-race steaks have been banned and he can't keep up with the likes of Dan Martin.....

Can someone remind me - Was he sans steak at 2011 Giro? Or 2012 Vuelta? I can never remember.

Contador shouldn't have been there at all - simple as.....

F**k me are we still doing the steak 'jokes' every time Contador's name is mentioned? I'm not a fan but it's as tedious as people going on about Wiggins being unable to descend in the wet or Froome having to constantly look at his power meter.

He should be applauded for being prepared to take a cut for the benefit of the team in what are tough times for World Tour teams. OK he is still on a big wedge and his results haven't been great but he could probably have held out for more especially if his future earning potential is on the wane, pro cyclists don't get many chances to earn decent money.

A bit cheeky but I do think it's actually a lot closer to the truth than the original statement. Let's not forget that amongst pro-cyclists, Bertie is a very priveledged human being indeed

I don't know why people have such a beef with Contador. I admit it's a meaty subject to chew the fat over but it's been well and truly done. I mean he has been grilled enough. He rides in high steak races and if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
