In over my head: Rockshox Reverb issue

Guys,

I bought a Reverb from probikeshop for £160, I knew it was going to come without a bleed kit but thought i'd risk it anyway. I'm an utter n00b and not too technically minded so getting a dropper post was always going to cause issues! Anyway, it arrived and I realised I needed a to pump it up so bought a Shock pump which I would need at some point anyway....here are my problems

1. I can pump it up to 250psi but it lets out about 30-40psi as soon as I release the pump. It's a rockshox pump. Is it safe to pump it to nearer 300 and assume it'll let out 30-40psi?

2. When I depress the remote, the button doesn't come back up. The post is as stiff as standard post but I read that this a good thing? When I press the button down I can hear like a squigy noise. On the post the other end, oil leaks out the cable bit. Is this normal?

Does it just need a bleed? I'll obviously need a bleed kit but could I take it to say evans or cyclesurgery and pay to have it bled while I buy a bleed kit for future service once I'm more proficient?

1/ Why are you adding air?

2/ Sounds like it needs bleeding!...not sure what you've done there.

You should have just put in your bike and ridden! (possibly shortened the hose, which is very simple and definitely shouldn't result in needing to bleed the thing)

I had to bleed mine after shortening the hose even though no oil was spilt. Mine is a stealth but I doubt it makes much difference. There shouldn't be oil leaking from anywhere.

No it doesn't. When you attach the pump, air flows from the post to the pump so the pressure drops. When you detach the pump the air you hear is air coming out of the hose as it's at high pressure. - the valve seals instantly.

I tested it out, it wouldn't work. Checked the air valve and there was no air in it so had to order a shock valve!
