Hi,
I am looking at replacing my chainset which is slx and I am on a 9 speed at min, when looking on wiggle etc they are all 10 speed compatible does this mean they are okay for my 9 speed as it doesn't say anything re 9 speed anywhere. Silly question I am sure but hey ho

Yes, it will be fine. I built a bike with that exact setup.
  • Thanks mate what difference will it make if my current one is 9 speed with 44/32/22 and the new one is 10 speed with 24/ 32/42 is this a major issue and assume front derailleur will be fine. Thanks again

You might need to move your front mech down a few mm for good shifting.

(And obviously your gearing will change slightly too, but I doubt you'll notice.)

also chain length, as the new rings are slightly bigger extra couple of teeth etc

does that mean the chain will need a extra link ?

    i'm running a 11-34 ratio cassette.

I'm thinking of doing similar and fitting a 10spd chainset as replacement for worn 9 spd kit.

    it all depends.

fit it and check the chain sizing. if to short fit a new chain.

    thanks

the chain is brand new, so i could put another link back in if needed.

Can't see why you need a longer chain, if you're changing from 22/32/44 to 24/32/42 surely the largest ring is smaller.

+1, you should need to remove 1 pair of links, but as many people domn't size them right it may be more!
