Hi all
Firstly both me and my wife are looking to get into to cycling, I had a very cheap road bike I used to do the London to Brighton in a few years ago… but the thing weighs a ton.
So long story short I am 5f 11inchs and looking to spend about £1000ish on another, am happy to buy new or second hand but it has to be light as I have to carry it up and down stairs. If I can get it on the C2W that would be great
These are what I have seen…
I know the following are rated highly on here…
Planet X pro carbon Ultrega
Focus Cayo Evo 6.0
Ribble R872
But I spoke to Wiggle and they recommended the Moser 111 Ultegra http://www.wiggle.co...1-ultegra-2013/
Or do I buy something like this second hand?
viewtopic.php?t=12943223 the Specialized Roubaix Comp SL2?
Any help would be great, thanks guys

Why buy second hand for a £1000 with no recall when you can buy new and have back up?
My choice would be the Pro Carbon as I have one and it is an excellent bike. They also do cycle scheme and int free credit which TBH I think is a better option.0 -
The PX is hard to pass up at that price.
Obviously 2nd hand buys you perhaps something originally twice the price - but you have to trade off the no warranty issue if that bothers you.
All my purchases have been 2nd hand or vastly reduced old stock (but new) so I advocate buying canny.Yellow is the new Black.0 -
do anyone know about Moser 111?0
-
Italian brand with I believe a frame of Chinese origin as are a lot of brands PX and Ribble etc included with a slightly lower gear spec 105 v Ultegra.0
-
so it would seem that the Planet X pro carbon Ultrega might be best were my money is...0
-
Mine has been a great buy so IMO yes and int free option if required.0

would you recommend the same for the wife? i didn't want to spend that much on her (don't tell her)
also i noticed you can upgrade bits and bobs, anything worth doing?
thanks0 -
Depends how much you want to spend for upgrades, wheels would be most expensive, the Model B is worth the slight difference to upgrade.
TBH I would get the same bike in a different colour for your lady wife, alternately look at their Sab range at £600 with Tiagra or their Holdsworth range which start at £899 with various choices of gear levels and full carbon frames.0 -
For a grand I would definitely go quality aluminium rather than cheapish carbon.Smarter than the average bear.0

also whats better out of these?
Planet X Pro Carbon Shimano Ultegra Triple Road Bike

Planet X Pro Carbon Franko Bianco Race Road Bike

Planet X RT-57 Sram Rival Carbon Road Bike

Planet X Pro Carbon SRAM Rival Road Bike

None are better than the others, the differences are just the make of gears on the Pro Carbons, Sram or Shimano. The RT57 is a different frame, different geometry compared to the Pro Carbon.
Many carbon frames are made in the same factory even big name brands so don't be put off just because these seem very good value you're just not paying for the big name.0 -
which one would you buy if it was your money and why?0

thank you for that...
i will pop into my local bike shop and try it...
but in you mind how does it compare against the planet X stuff
i noticed i could get the GIANT TCR SL 1 for £1100... which seems like a good buy0 -
PX frame is full carbon the other one is Alu with carbon forks, they are both Shimano gears PX is Ultegra the other one is Ultegra also. Both are good bikes with good gears.0

this one seems very intresting, and im guessing will hold its value better if i ever upgrade or give up...

TBRH I don't think there would be any difference.0
-
Just to add I think you would find the gearing on that one hard work.0
-
is Ultegra not easy to use?0

It's not that, it's the size of the front chain rings which are 39/53, they would be harder to pedal than a 34/50 one which is known as a compact.0
