OK folks, I have, removed the locking ring, removed the first and second sprocket, however, the rest does not wish to come off ??

This is the first time I've removed a cassette so may be there is something else needing done, but I just assumed the rest would just come straight off, but not ?

Any ideas what I'm missing ??

    should come off.
    Hope hubs?

    alloy body?

cassette has cut into the body. tap each cog against drive direction to release them.

Depends on the cassette. But what Nick says anyway.

  • Depends on the cassette. Been there with individual cogs dug into hope hubs. Bit of brute force sorted it and then a bit of gentle filing to aid the new cassette going on. It's less of a prob if the bigger cogs are on an alloy carrier. I think my 105s have quite a few separate cogs before you get to the carrier for the bigger 5 or so...

Don't go too crazy with brute force though!
  • As indeed do my deores now I see we're talking MTB cassettes...

Doere cassette, a bit of persuasion via two screw drivers underneath eventually popped them. Hub has a fair bit of cuts dug in to them :(
