Which gear ratio is for me

Im changing my cassette from a 7 speed to an 8 speed but im unsure which ratio to get i have seen 11-32, 12-26,12-23 and 11-28 but i dont really know the difference that it makes and will i have to change my chain or the front rings?

Really you should replace complete drivetrain at the same time due to wear, new parts don't work too well with worn parts. So I would advise getting new chain and front rings too.

With regards to the ratio it depends on what you have/would have (assuming you might replace also) up front. How many chainrings and what size?

Based on a set of 3, usually 11,22,32. I would suggest a cassette with 11-32, that seems to the standard.

Quite, it depends what you're taking off. If you have been used to 11-32, then going to 11-28 will result in a higher low gear (harder to pedal). Going to a 11-34 will result in a lower low gear (easier to pedal).

Except front rings are not 11,22,32. More like 22,32,42 ish
