Does anyone know the sizing of these shoes?

I boguht a 43.5 which is a 9, the right foot is tight in that I can feel my foot throbbing. Left foot is fine, would going to a44.5 be too big a jump in size?

  • So your mavic shoes are too small and your fizik r1's are too small as well. Have thought about trying some on before buying?

Shoes are one of the things that should not be bought via the internet, in my opinion. Far better to pay a bit more and try a few different brands and sizes at the LBS to find some that fit properly.
  • Thats a great idea in principle, but then I would be limited to specilaized, shimano all the mainstream brands. Lodd whatever your name is you are extremely astute. Where I live there arent too many places that stock mavic or fizik off the shelf. Also the fizik are listed as 43.5, im a 43 so a natural assumption that the .5 would be half a size bigger. But it isnt.

Shoe brands vary on sizing for instance Shimano are small sized so a size up is usually required. I recommend you go and try some shoes on otherwise you will have a collection bigger than Jimmy Choo. :)

I have bought plenty of shoes online, even from Germany.

You either need to be prepared for the cost of sending them back, only £4.89 through collect plus, and if the shoes are bargainous enough thats easy to justify.
Or stick to Wiggle, CRC, Wheelies who all offer free returns.
    Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
Marin Palisades Trail 91 and 06
    Scott CR1 SL 12
    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
    Scott Foil 18

When I bought my shoes, I went through about 4 different brands with a couple of sizes from each brand until I found the right fitting shoe. That would be a lot of sending back and forth on the internet. Not worth it in my book.

You may be limited in choice with local shops, but you would likely be more comfortable too and have less wasted time

As said, wiggle,CFC and others do free returns. You could buy 3 pairs around the size you think you want, then send the unwanted back for refund.

Helmets, shoes and gloves should be tried on in a shop so you can compare different sizes.

Also, most people have one foot larger than the other, so buy shoes sized for the larger foot. This is why you should try both shoes for size before buying.

I'd suggest ff only 5mm extra is needed go up half a size, or one full size for approx 10mm. It's also worth thinking about thick socks if to be used during winter.
  • Was thinking that about winter socks but then they will be too big during the summer

You probably need different shoes for winter and summer to allow for thick socks. Fizik size up large in my experience, considering they are Italian which are usually small. I take a 43.5 / 44 in Diadora but a 43 in Fizik. Nice shoes though.
  • Different shoes, wouldnt that be nice

I've got spesh winter boots for the bad weather, it may be more initial outlay but both sets last longer than buying new lightweight shoes every few years. And I've got warmer feet in the winter.

However, I use my mtb shoes/boots on muddy mtb rides so they see a fair bit more wear and tear than road only use.
