Tyre Advice Needed - What's a Good All-Rounder?

I'm looking for some tyre advice for my daughter's new bike. We've just bought her an Islabike Luath 700 which is a roadbike with the capability to tour and do light off-road (eg towpaths & trails) work.

She will be mostly riding this bike on the road but I would like to put on it a set of tyres that are capable of the type of light off-road activity mentioned above such as the flints on towpaths and some of the sustrans-like off road cycle trails. She won't be doing any rough stuff on it. I'm obviously looking for a tyre that is well suited for the road (low rolling resistance etc) but can stand up to the type of off-road path I'm talking about.

I've had Marathon Plus' in the past but I think the Marathon Plus' are a bit more of a touring tyre best suited for the limitied off roading anticipated than the predominately road tyre I'm looking for this time with good sidewalls and puncture resistance.

I've had recommendations for two other tyres namely Swalbe Durano Plus tyres and Continental Grand Prix GT's. Anyone have any opinions of the suitability of these two tyres to the usage patterns above or have any other recommendations? Any experience reports on either of these two tyres would be helpful as well.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Marcus

I suspect that the Durano Plus would be ideally suited to your brief. I run with Conti 4 Seasons during the autumn/ winter months, but I suspect they are a bit too soft for off road paths.

    GP4Seasons

I ride mine over allsorts and they are ace.

If you need a bit more tread for off-roading then put a Conti touring tyre on the front. Gives a bit more bite over rough ground. You'll be fine with the GP4 on the back though.

    4 Seasons

I ride mainly on roads, but don't worry taking them onto trails etc. - they wouldn't cope with muddy tracks very well, but you need something with a bit of serious tread for that.

The 28mm 4 Seasons is a great comfy tyre - I do the vast majority of my riding on them.
