Does anyone know if you can get silver colour versions of these or is it just black only? I haven't located any in my searches so far.

No, only black...
The Ultegra 6800 are dark grey, kind of slate, but only 32 holes.
The 105 come in silver, but only 32 holesleft the forum March 20230 -
Dunno about the rest but I have silver 105 hubs with 36 holes on the wheels Harry Rowland built for me so those can be got.0

Yes, I always assume that people want lower rather than higher spoke count. 36 is available across the Shimano rangeleft the forum March 20230 -
I thought that would be the case Ugo as it is a wise guess that people want the lowest counts possible (or that someone can convince them is possible :?: ). I thought I would post anyway about 105s as higher spoke count wheels need all the publicity they can get IMO!0

However dura ace hubs are sublime perfection. I built with a set yesterday and I really really want to keep the wheels but must must ship them to Italy must must must.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

See if you can find some NOS 7800 hubs, they sometimes crop up on ebay. Pretty sure this model has a fully serviceable freehub.0

Yes, while the 7900 is enclosed, like the 9000left the forum March 20230 -
I've got 2 sets of wheels with dura ace hubs. they roll like you wouldn't beleive and as Ugo himself has seen they require minimal maintenance. did a rolling test with a friend on mavics cosmic SLR's and my c50 shimanos and he looked like he was going through treacle in comparison. we both weigh roughly the same, around 75kgs....
anyhow the 9000 hubs that i got were a nearly black colour, sort of a really dark gun metally blue ish tinge to them.
weird thing is the 105 hubs on the winter training wheels aren't bad at all either!0 -
Must admit, my dura ace hubs seem to roll quicker than my hopes!0

Cone/balls bearing normally roll for longer, in real life that means nothing... the reason is sealed bearings have seals, the better the seal the more the drag... SKF bearing have a lot of drag, but they are also well sealed.
Moral is: I would not give too much importance to these rolling tests as they don't mean anything at allleft the forum March 20230 -
That's why I did not mention that. It the reliablilty of the bearings and the minimal maintance is what you are paying for. Most hubs consume 1-2W at speed (25mph+) so the savings offered by lower drag are very small.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0
