A friend of mine is planning to do LEJOG next year and he wants to buy a suitable bike for it. He's limited to whatever is available from Halfords for £1,000 on C2W - but I think you can get Halfords to order other brands in? All suggestions/recommendations appreciated

rather depends on if hes doing it supported or unsupported. If he wants to take his time or whiz straight up there.

Land's End to John O'Groats on the cycle to work scheme - that's a long commute!
  • I did JOGLE this year in 8 days; solo, unsupported on a Specialized Allez stopping in B&B's. The most important thing is that it fits correctly, it can carry what is needed for the journey and that the saddle is comfortable.

What are the actual plans for the LEJOG? Solo, Duo, team, supported, unsupported, B&B's, camping....?

Good advice. The wife and I did it on two rigid mountain bikes shod with road tyres. After loading the panniers and barbag the weight of the bike becomes less of an issue. As said, comfort is a priority.
I'm not getting old... I'm just using lower gears......
    Sirius - Steel Reynolds 631
Cove Handjob - Steel Columbus Nivacrom
    Trek Madone - Carbon

Thanks for that - didn't you use to be able to get Planet Xs from halfords on C2W? I've just pointed him in the direction of the Kaffenback

Kaffenback is only available direct from Planet X, they do it on cycle scheme as well.
  • Nope no PLanet X or Ribble - I asked that and that is what prompted the reply I've posted above.
