Need some new flat pedals, the old ones have been clicking for some reason.

Pretty annoyed I have to get new ones, I really liked the saint ones I had, they were fantastic.

Can anyone reccomend pedals similar to saint in strength (for aggresive use) and no more then £50

What? My current saints click which is why I'm replacing them :? Why would I risk another £45?

well not if they are clicking their not, i dont see why they would be clicking otherwise, its a plain bearing isnt it ?

are you sure its the pedals and not the drive train ?

its one of his usual condensing posts, ignore him, i do to the most part

what im trying to find out, is do the pedals run on a plain bearing, ie one piece of metal running inside another, or is there an actual caged bearing in there ?

They were fantastic in every way, apart from the clicking (grip, size, weight, price etc.).

Sorry, I thought that would be so obvious that I wouldn't have to explain it

Yes, The pedal rotates around a large "pin", the "pin" screws into the crank arm

im still not clear if these pedals have a needle roller bearing in them of not, however the clicking suggests they do ?

you could try cleaning the grease out of them , throw it in a bowl of white spirit or paraffin over night( petrol works best but be very careful) and then repack with grease, if you lucky its just a bit of grit rather than the onset of bearing failure
  • Superstar.

There I said it. there must be thousands of threads all asking the same thing and the usual answer is superstar. Infact that's the normal answer for most parts questions.

Well if they were fantastic, and they've simply worn out over time, then why not replace them with the same?

If they've worn out in a short period of time (which you haven't explained) then I can see why people might question just how fantastic they are.

    +1

Strip em down, give 'em a good clean up. re-grease and re-assemble.

Probably just grit in the grease. Strip, clean and re grease
  • While im probblay doing myself out of a sale of a set of Nanos....

my first bet would be the pedal axle threads (where it screws into the crank) have no anti seize grease on. If they are dry they will creak like a swine. that solves 99% of problems.

Try carboncycles, same as superstar's but currently nearly 5 quid cheaper. Sorry superstar!

It's ok, I'm going to strip and clean and grease as advised before shedding out on new pedals.

But you have saved yourself the cost of a little baggie of Haribo, so it's not all bad.

pff...I remember the heady days of Haribo with my Superstar orders. Seems like a lifetime ago. Wonder if any will come with the Ultra Meg pedals I've just ordered

They still do come with haribo don't they? They accidentally put two packs in when I ordered some rotors from them.

I hope Neil isn't now going to ask for them back.
