For me, this is one of the most challenging aspects of cycling - getting this right is crucial
As others have posted, it's about what's right for you - listening to your body about what works and what doesn't, staying hydrated and eating stuff that does the job and doesn't make you want to yak all the time.
Me, I find a lot of gels, etc taste utterly vile and have the texture of snot, so I prefer regular food - but then I've never done a century (it's on my to do list) - but no doubt as fitness increases, and efficiency goes up, fuel needs go down. Probably.
It's just a hill. Get over it.0
