Cycling in India

It's ironic that just as in cycling is increasing in popularity in London and across cities in developed countries that in India and China cycling is disappearing or even being banned apparently:

In cities like London and New York alongside the increasing popularity of things like cycling, communities are turning their backs on major corporate supermarkets, coffee shops etc etc and trying to encourage locally sourced produce etc. Not far from where I live there was huge resistance to Sainsbury's when they tried to open a Sainsbury's Local on an otherwise mostly independent high street.

In cities in China, India etc the hottest place to see or be seen is the local American "mall" complete with MacDonalds, Starbucks etc etc as the population turns its back on traditional suppliers of "street" food and drink...

Funny, it seems that we always crave what we haven't got.

That is the kind of crazy thing they do in Kolkata. There will be some strikes and demos and quite frankly life will continue on as normal. It is slightly surprising though, the streets of the city are usually teeming with bikes and quite frankly it's not the cycles that cause the traffic problems on Kolkata's streets.

By the way if any of you get the chance to go, do. It's a fantastic place, Bengalis are really friendly and the food will blow your mind. You will never want British curry house food again!
    RIP commute...
Sometimes seen bimbling around on a purple Fratello Disc or black and red Aprire Vincenza.

They'll get over it. I think it's a rite of passage in a developing economy. Then they will find out its pants
