Giant revolt or cube reaction or??? Help needed for none mtb

Hello I am looking for a bike to cycle on reservoir paths and forest trails including the BHF Nottingham 40 mile ride at the end of October.
I am considering the new giant revolt as this would also double as a spare commuting bike. I would ideally like rack mounts and guards. I am worried that the fixed front fork might be a bit harsh and the bike not up to a rough trails. Any advice or alternatives would be greatly appreciated. I note the carbon cube Reaction gtc pro is available fro £909 on the web.
I am the wrong side of 50 and won't want anything too bling for c£1k.
