The 2012 bike has got (arguably) a better drive chain and rear shock and possibly a better wheelset.
Do you want Shimano gears or Sram?“Life has been unfaithful

just the best of the two on peoples opinion the older bike comes with pedals too which is a bonus i thought they both had same suspension0

Personally I'd go for the 2012. Providing there's been no improvements to the frame.
I have X5 shifters and derailer's on my hybrid and SLX shifters and XT derailers on my MTB. Comparable to the two bikes your looking at.
From my experience if I had the x5 on my mountain bike I would have changed it. I find them plasticky, slower shifting and less precise than the SLX shifters and XT derailers in comparison.
I also much prefer the push/ pull changes of the shimano compared to the push/ push changes of the sram.0 -
Assuming the frames are the same, I'd prefer slx/xt to X5.Planet X Kaffenback 2

The older bike has better forks, better drivtrain (XT would be X9 on the later bike where it has X7), better chainset and BB and the same brakes, no brainer really especially as the forks being 1.5" make them harder/costiler to replace, and the fact it has pedals (assuming they are good) could be reducing the price difference to £75ish.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

i,m in two minds here after speaking to someone at the shop the older bike comes with basic pedals to get you going and apparently the rear shock does not lock out where as the new bike the rear shock does and both bikes have the same front shock,s rock shox recon gold and both have elixer 3 brakes the last bike i had was a gt i drive bit plain i know but was adequate for me at the time so this is a big jump up in spec for me i,m a confident rider but know nothing of spec,s etc etc etc so the more advice the better thanks to all who has helped up to now ps i plan choosing and buying this bike on everyones opinion from bike radar thnx once again0

My rear shock doesn't lock out and I can't say I've ever wished it would. My forks lock out and I think I've locked them twice.
Gears however I use every ride. Without fail.
And I wouldn't worry about pedals, any that come with a bike are almost definitely going to be rubbish.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

According to the SRAM websiteboth the RL and RT have lock-out.
I'd go for the 2012 bike.
Manufacturer-supplied pedals are usually cheap rubbish and you'll be changing them anyway so don't worry about them.
Get a set of SPDs or decent flats and you're sorted.“Life has been unfaithful

the RT is similar to the fox RP2 while the RL has an actual lockout with blow out. would rather have the RT as you will still get some small bump compliance0

it seems peoples opinions rate the older machine for gears rear shock etc etc so i think this maybe the one to go for if anyone else has an argument for the newer bike i,d like to here it too theres only a few bikes left so the sooner the better and thanks every1 for your help advice and opinions ..... ady0

I'd def go for the one that says "Recon Gold TK Solo Air""Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I've had a look on the Cannondale website and it states that both bikes have the same fork: RockShox Recon Gold TK, 120mm, Solo Air, lockout, rebound, 1.5"
