I have a 2013 Trek Stache with Fox Float 120 CTD's. The forks are really stiction'y after 6 months use. The forks have never been really plush.

If I remove the metal spring from around the outside of the seal the fork frees considerably. If I lube the stanchions and get lube under the lip its better temporarily.

Does anyone know if these forks are likely to be the new SKF seals or how I can tell short of fitting new seals and trying.

SKF on the right; see the lip above the spring is flatter than the old version which tapered up towards the stanchion.
  • Thanks for that, that is useful pictures to have to hand. Will check tonight ...

  • Well I've checked and they definitely the newer SKF type according to the pictures.

Time to take the lowers off and investigate a little.

  • depends how much riding you've done....they could be overdue a service based on riding hours or how well you've looked after them in the first place?
  • They've done 700 miles all this dry summer. As I said, they never became plush so I suspect something isn't quite right.

I'll give Mojo a call and see what they advise. Happy to pay for a service if it'll sort it.

I had a F120 fork with the FIT cartridge and they just never felt right. Got them serviced by Mojo and they were a little better but just never seemed to suck up the small stuff. Big stuff fine but I always felt the trail buzz through the bars.
Now got a different bike with Rockshox SIDS and what a difference I can tune them just right and a click on the adjuster knob or 10 psi of air makes a noticeable difference.

All I can put it down to was the FIT cartridge just making things feel dull.
