These are priced as if made of gold, but I have serious cold toe issues and was wondering what people thought about them? To me a windproof sock makes perfect sense, am I alone?
Last winter I used merino socks with a seal skins sock over that (which I don't rate), then some windproof overshoes. I'm hoping to replace the seal skins with something like the fuguspeer. If anyone has any other suggestions for a comparable product at a much nicer price I'd love to hear about it.

i recommend some neoprene toe covers. Material is thick like a wetsuite. They definitely kept my toes from freezing last year. They work great , and cheap too!

Where are you cycling if you need that much insulation
I've never needed anything more than Defeet Woolie Boolie socks and neoprene overshoes!
Since its Assos I'd say they definitely do the job.. whether they're worth the money is another question!0 -

Last winter I was regularly out in an evening after work in subzero, plus I get really cold feet anyway. It all adds up to a big problem for me.
Trailflow, thanks for the links. Toe covers are something I've started using just recently with evenings getting into single figures. But I figured some extra insulation and windproofing close to the skin would be a good idea.Look 566 viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12892775&p=18015091#p18015091

You just need Woolie Boolies and winter boots a size larger than you normally take, that's all. I love Assos stuff, most of my kit is Assos, but i wouldn't spend out on those socks ...0

Much better to use warm socks and have booties for wind protection. Assos have one if you wish to spend that much

probably better value

Yes. Like you I suffer from cold feet. All year round. Which makes
My winter commutes miserable at times. Last winter I wore a pair of these, over 2 x little hottie patches on each toe area, woolie boolies, shoes and neoprene overshoes. Anything under 5 degrees and I still suffered.
So the socks didn't necessarily solve my issue although I'll continue wearing them. Psychologically they probably helped! This year I'll be adding a pair of specific winter boots into the mix.0 -

 Congratulations on your warm feet. If you paid any attention to anything on here you'd know that some peoples circulation isn't as fabulous as yours as a result of which people get cold toes and fingers (personally, Woolie Boolies, Northwave Fahrenheit winter boots and heavy weight overshoes don't keep my feet warm). I'd have thought you would have worked that out ages ago. It comes up often enough......... Mind you, it isn't as though you are the only one; I see Giant Man is also making a twit of himself on here.
OP - sealskins are OK but they are for keeping out water - they are never really going to be the best solution for warmth in dry conditions.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Nothing beats proper winter boots.0

HouseMunkey, I generally do not have cold feet/circulation issues but can vouch for the Fugu winter sock. I even wear them for work.
if you are seriously suffering with cold feet then try this, get a bottle of WELEDA Massage balm with Arnica, about £7 or £8 and rub a small amount of this into your feet/toes before a ride. See if it helps you. I only ever do this in depths of winter. I would not recommend the cream type stuff i.e Deep Heat etc.0 -
Thanks for the advice everyone and for the support from fellow cold toe sufferers!!! Sounds like if you have this problem then the fugu may help. I know its a lot of money for socks but its not a lot of money overall and if it helps make my riding more pleasurable then I'm all for it.
rajMAN, I'll have to check that stuff out, anything that helps is all good by me

These castelli ones look to be a similar sort of sock but a tenner less. Anyone think they will perform the same?Look 566 viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12892775&p=18015091#p18015091

Most important thing is that you have shoes that leave PLENTY OF ROOM for thick/warm socks - if this isn't the case no number of super-duper ridiculous socks/overshoes/magicbeans will keep your feet warm. Oh and when it comes to clothing accessories, Prendas are simply unbeatable which is why so many pros and top amateurs use their stuff regardless of sponsorship. Try their winter socks and winter overshoes (with shoes one size too big vs. your regular 'summer' shoes) and you will not only be impressed, but you won't feel like you've just been mugged either.0

I've got some winter shoes which are a size too big, so that's not an issue. I wasn't looking at the assos socks because they were thin for my summer shoes, I was just looking at them for being windproof.

I assume these are the prendas socks you are talking about? I'm all up for something warmer than the thick merino socks I've been using up to now (planet x items). So if these will be better I'll get some, but it says nothing about windproof which was my idea for a second layer sock inside the shoe, as well as overshoes of course.Look 566 viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12892775&p=18015091#p18015091

Rolf you echoes my thoughts as well.
If ALIHISGREAT looked up Neuropathy he would see how bad this can get.
I've just ordered a couple of Pairs of Fuguspeers and will try them out and when it gets really cold will combine them with my Sidi Goretex boots which are very good at helping to keep the feet a little warmer but I find are clumsy and only really worth using on slow rides where you don't need to respond to a faster ride.0
