Replace 135mm steerer fork with 155mm

I'm currently refurbing my first ever MTB and want to replace the rigid forks with suspension. My current fork has 135mm steerer but I've seen 155mm steerer sus forks - I'm quite limited as I've got 1 inch threaded headset. Can I replace 135mm with 155mm - sorry if this is a newbie question but this is my first project :oops:

Depends how far the threads go down. You need to know the total length and the threaded length.

It's 155mm steerer length with 75mm thread

And the thread on the original - you need to be able to thread the headset on the new ones.
