Stripped crank thread - repair possible?

A pedal worked loose and by the time I worked out what was going on the bloody thing fell off, having worn the threads in the crank completely smooth. Is it possible to get the hole drilled and fit some kind of threaded insert? Any other workarounds that are going to save me having to fork out for a new crank arm. (Grrrr.....!)
