I am going to try to service my wife's ancient Rockshox Duke forks. I am also planning on doing the wiper cleaning thing on my Fox forks.

However I am confused by all the different lubes/suspension oil options. It seems I need Red Rum for the forks - accorrding to some of the stuff I've read Red Rum is 15wt oil - but other sites say it is 75 or 80wt oil. Equally it seems some people use Fox Float and Red Rum interchangeably.

If I can use Red Rum on the Fox Forks it would save me buying both - but is this ok?

    Buzzys Slick honey.

red rum was a wiper/seal grease but turned into suspension oil over the years.

    Thanks for the reply Nick.

Still not 100% clear though - I already have Rock oil 15wt and 5wt suspension oil. I am planning on following these directions:http://www.mountainbikerides.co.uk/fettling/4-suspension/32-rock-shox-duke-sl100-fork-service.html

Would I use the 15wt oil in place of Red Rum as per these directions then? And then use the Slick Honey on the Orings/wipers?

    Thanks Nick! Much appreciated.
  • Just done mine . Rather than pay over the odds for Sram I got motorcycle fork oil and weldtite suspension compatible grease. Agree with using Sram pdf docs .

As an aside rather than start a thread . I just upgraded a Sid rlt with a black box damper ( based on threads here and the fact one came up in the classifieds ) The difference is stunning , what I considered a good fork is now even more controlled with a sense of floating over obstacles particularly long rooty sections .

Couldobetter - did you replace the seals etc? Where did you source those?

Very efficient company and UK based , prices much the same as others . Visited the store too and they were very helpful checking what I needed.

sid kit roughly £ 32.00 and included every oil seal , washers, schrader valves etc . Thus able to do a total strip and referb for far less than sending away . Only tools needed snap ring pliers , 24mm socket , 5mm allen key 10mmm deep socket .
