After some advice....need to learn!!

Hi, I'm trying my best to educate myself on doing the odd job on the bike, and had a couple of questions to ask...

How do I know what rear derailer I have, it's a 105, but I don't know if its a medium or short cage? It's on my new bike Felt F5 2013, if I were to buy a new one, would it matter if it was medium or short?

The rear derailer and chain I am looking at say 5701...is this compatible with the other 105 (5700) components?

Sorry for the noobish questions.

    Yes it's all compatible with the 5700! Not 100% sure on medium and short cage have an idea don't want to give you the wrong info

    Plus best way to learn is Youtube, Shimano maintenance section and practice

    Thanks, have worked out the derailer questions, and learnt about capacity etc! So I have an ss cage. All good.
