Forks with 1" steerer

Forgive what may be a couple of daft questions but I need to replace the forks on my son's road bike. It's an old steel frame with a 1" threaded steerer.
Will 1" threadless forks fit if used with the appropriate headset?
I've measured the steerer tube on his and it's 240mm, or 235mm along the back. It is a large frame, he's huge. I've looked at a set of new old stock forks with what is claimed to be an uncut steerer, but it is listed as 203mm long. Presumably the steerer is measured as the total length of steerer and not plain section as one measurement and threaded as a seperate length. I guess the frame for that fork only ever came with short head tubes.

Yes, as long as you have the right headset etc a threadless conversion is easy enough.
Steerer length, even threaded, is conventionally quoted as the full length, 240mm is LONG!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Hi there. You can get threadless 1" forks. Unlike the threaded, the steerer will need to protrude a fair bit out of the top so will need to be longer. However, there are 300mm steerers out there:

Or if you don't mind sticking with a threaded headset, Evans have this for under £30.

Thanks all, I ordered the 270mm steerer forks from Planet X, they arrived with a 225mm steerer. Rather strange as they list 180mm or 270mm only. I'm waiting for themto get back to me at the moment. I want to keep the threaded steerer as it's in keeping with an old steel frame. Simlarly the problem with the Evans forks is they have V brake bosses.
Oh well, he's riding my old Marin for the time being so not urgent. I can see him using that through the winter now as it has guards.0 -
No canti or V bosses? How about this?
