Hi,

I'm interested in buying one of these bikes - Giant Defy 0 2013 or Cannondale CAAD8-105 2014 - but can't decide. Any suggestions on which is better value would be most appreciated.

  • Perhaps you should tell us why you have decided on these two bikes, what has drawn you to them, what do you like about them, what will you use the chosen bike for, maybe if you answer these questions you won't need us to decide for you, just out of interest, who chooses underpants for you?
  • Mickyg88, thanks for confirming the stereotype of a condescending bike snob and the completely unhelpful reply. I don't know who you're speaking for, but hopefully the "us" in your reply is tiny minority.

not sure if you can squeeze the budget but there are some good deals on the Composite

  • It's more what fits you best. For what you get, I would've thought the giant would be better value - you do get bits..... of Ultegra. I do like the Cannondales though and I don't think 105 saw any huge changes for 2013/2014 so technically current. Where as 2013 Ultegra is old hat now (2014 11 spd with other revisions).
  • Sorry Beehive, but as only your second post on the forum that is not a good start... If we ignore the underpants comment then Mickyg88 asked some pretty good questions - the types of questions you should be asking yourself as part of the whole buying process. Have you ridden either bike? Have you checked their geometry as compared to your body shape? Are you planning on racing, touring, commuting, sportives etc? Without any other information how can any forum member say which is offering you the best "value", in reality, since value is a subjective measurement? They usually are happy to offer opinions as to which bike might suit you best but surely you can see that they need more information than you have offered in your first post. You can see yourself which one is offering the most spec for the money by seeing where the components fit within the manufacturers hierarchy but that is always only part of the story. BTW, just for your information the so called "bike snob" stereotype is referring to someone who only rides expensive "named" brands/only wears certain branded clothing and who looks down on other riders who don't also do this - it has nothing at all to do with someone who asks you questions about a post on a web forum that you don't want to or can't answer. • I think the Defy is the natural choice given that it not only has a better groupset, but also better wheels, and a highly acclaimed frameset.

But get the one that fits best.
