Hello,
Just assembled my On-one 456 carbon frame. My local shops do not have headset bearings that will fit.
Can anyone recommend some? Fox tapered fork.
Seems the ones mentioned on here 'Smoothies?' aren't recommended.

Sorry, not sure of the question. Are headsets and bearings considered seperate items? I meant both.
I have an On-one 456 carbon frame.
Fox tapered fork.
The fork came from a Trek Remedy (3 years old).0 -
What sort of headset does you 456 need?I don't do smileys.

This headset http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=425 It comes with two crown races for standard and tapered forks, install it with plenty of waterproof grease on the bearings.
These replacement bearings when the originals are knackered http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=439 & http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=8050 -
I've been using a On-One's Smoothie Mixer on my 456C for about 2 years now without any problems.
I replaced the lower bearings with the one's in Neal's 2nd link, this became a little rough when some water got in, I think this was down to me being a bit mean with the grease though.0 -
You need a headset with a 44mm upper and a 49.6mm lower - your LBS should have given you a better steer I'd say.
I have a Ritchey top and a Hope bottom (for no particular reason other than they fit). The on-one smoothie has mixed reviews but what doesn't?
I'd recommend this though - if it really is a headset and not just new bearings?

Thats not compatible with a tapered steerer which the OP has. Also that will alter the head angle which the OP may not want to do.Neal_ wrote:This headset http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=425 It comes with two crown races for standard and tapered forks, install it with plenty of waterproof grease on the bearings.
+1 I had this on my on my c456 worked fine. The original bearings lasted over a year then I sold the frame on so not sure about longevity.0 -
Just replied to this but seemed to have lost it.
Thanks for the great replies and links. Will save them.
I was getting impatient so went for the Smoothie for now. But will get a spare set of bearings from Superstar mentioned above.
The upper cup went in fine the lower one was a beast. There is still 1mm between the frame and cup but I think it has bottomed out so I won't force it any more.
Unfortunately On-one sent the 1 1/8 lower ring not the tapered (1 1/2?). They sent another one, also 1 1/8, so hopefully the correct one will arrive tomorrow, 3rd time lucky, and I can finally ride the bike.
Cheers for the help.0 -
On-one still can't sort out their bearings. Still waiting for the correct one. One day I will get to ride the bike.0
