Sooooo I need/want some new Autumn kit since its easier to motivate yourself if you've got the right gear?

Endura Equipe Gilet £49
Endura Roubaix Jacket - £45
DHB Vaeon 3/4 bibs - £40
DHB vaeon lycra knee warmers - £10
Prendas Cordura oversocks - £8 x2
Prendas Thermocool socks - £8
Prendas Super Roubaix gloves - £17.50
Endura Road overshoes - £20

=£200!

Still in a serviceable condition from last season:

DHB Windslam Jersey SS and LS
DHB Vaeon shorts
DHB merino baselayer SS and LS
Prendas meraklon arm warmers
DHB lycra arm warmers
Endura packable windproof
DHB Roubaix tights
DHB lycra leg warmers
Endura winter socks
Defeet woolie boolie socks

So how can I cut the £200 in half but still have all the nice pieces of kit? Any recommendations for cheaper (but still nice) kit? and any criticisms of my current choices will be noted!

  • £10 tub of embrocation will mean at least a layer less and none of that roubaix kit
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

Ditch the gilet- nice sometimes, but over rated piece of kit
Ditch the 3/4s - shorts and kneewarmers and full legwarmers are more versatile

    Roubaix l/s top is useful.
Planet X overshoes are a tenner.
2.99 petrol station gloves are as warm as the above. Full on winter gloves will cost more, you will need them if you're riding all winter.
Why spend all that money.on socks?

Hmm the Gilet is surely one of the most versatile bits of kit? I could wear one tomorrow morning over my summer kit.. or in January on top of a roubaix jersey?

    and I have a bit of a thing for socks/oversocks - can't stand having cold feet/mucky shoes.
  • Are we really bothered, how old are you? Do you ever make decisions in your life, FFs it's only clothing.

I have the Prendas over socks and they are NOT warm. They keep a a bit of wind chill off but that is about it. I doubt I'll use mine until spring now. Endura Road overshoes are the best I've used..
  • I wouldn't bother with the Roubaix jersey. You can stick with the Windslam jersey and layer it with the gilet or windproof jacket if necessary.
No need for the 3/4 bibs - shorts and knee warmers will do the same thing.
I presume you have caps etc. to keep your head warm?

I suppose your choices should be influenced by whether you tend to run hot or cold.

  • As others have said. No kneed :-) for 3/4 bibs.

I too think gilets are a great piece of kit.

Not sure about the need for knee warmers, shorts/legwarmers or bibtights.

See if you can find some ski gloves on sale if you need a depths of winter glove.

    Happy shopping.
  • See, personally I love 3/4's. More comfortable than shorts plus warmers. And, generally, they will be of the warmer variety, i.e. roubaix rather than normal lycra.

In fact I use 3/4 from now right through to even 0 degree days.

Are you suggesting he rides through the winter with summer bibshorts? Are you kidding us?

I like 3/4 bibs too. But if the OP is on a budget, then I guess he could do without and just wear warmers on the intermediate days and full tights on the cold days.

3/4 are awesome, have more of them than normal shorts now! But as said, on a budget give the £10 knee Warner's a go.

For the money savers, Aldi and running clothing are mega cheap.

I own a lot of Under Armour thermal clothing, aimed at runners, and its very good, and cheap at the right places.
