Race-blade longs and 25mm

Do they fit or not? Read various debates about the 18-23 guidelines being a load of tosh but just want to be sure. Going for something a bit more substantial than my current raceblades that wobble and rub (for the same reason that I don't fancy cruds; that and they look god awful), since I'm now going to be commuting every day and probably going to join a club. Currently have about 3-5mm clearance under brakes, forks etc. with my new 25mm 'winter' tyres. Will they be fine?

I've got a set fixed permanently to my Specialized Allez which I have run with 25mm tyres. They are probably as good as it gets for a bike with no mudguard attachments and limited clearance.
Which isn't saying much, just that no company has come up with IMO an adequate solution for this. I have butchered mine and cross-bred them with crud racers (which are IMO are useless flimsy things). I also had to butcher an old water drinks bottle to extend the tail of the front guard.
Yes it was a tricky procedure, almost like open heart surgery I imagine, only a few more scars and also instead the utensils involved extended to the use of tie wraps, a Bosch drill, and a lighter (in replacement of a heat gun).
I will post a photo shortly once I have mastered the art of uploading photos to this site via a iPad.0 -
Yepp, I run the longs with 25mm and don't have a problem. You might need to slightly bend the strip of metal connector though to give a little more clearance.
I don't bother with the small sections that go in front of the bridges as they are more hassle than they are worth (and seem to add no value). I also didn't need to fit any longer splash guard to the back as they are plenty long enough in my opinion (longer than Cruds and certainly not so blinking wobbly). Great for club rides.0 -
