downtube shifters
:?: Hi
I've just had my 105 shift-levers go the way of the buffalo, and I'm looking at £150+ to replace them. However, I've spent the first 30 years of my cycling career with down tube friction shifters without any problems, and still have them on my old tourer and classic 80's campag Bob Jackson. So the question is: does anyone know of some band-on friction shifters (old or new) with a wide enough band to go around the larger diameter modern downtube of my Genesis Equilibrium, or should I just go with bar-end until I decide to upgrade the entire groupset?

Not really answering your question, sorry, but this may interest you. Has the advantage of brake/shifters and the reliability/compatibility with downtube levers. http://www.retroshift.com/store/products/shifters/ Check out their video of shifters in action. I've never seen any oversized band-on shifter mounts.0

Go on, be honest - what you want, what you want, what you reall really want is this:

You need a 31.8mm clamp I think. D/T shifters with this clamp are hard to find. I friction 10 speed and it is fine. Bar end shifters are the easiest solution or use a Paul thumbie adapter to fit to the bar tops.
Kelly's take off is another example of the lever mounted shifter.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
The link I posted is a 31.8mm clamp.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0
