Looking at 2 bikes at the moment. The Giant Defy Advanced 1 and the Dedacciai Super Scuro. Mainly interested in sportives that will include some hill climbing so looking for something comfortable on longer rides. Just wondering if someone has any experience on these bikes.

  • Ride them see what you think - The Giant has a lifetime warranty on the frame for you. Not sure about the other one, this sounds good though:

    - raw carbon fiber IM600
    - carbon fiber is rated 30T highest modulus
    - tensile strength of 5790 MPa (a particularly high value for 30T)
    - high ratio of elasticity of 285 GPa
    - high elongation resistance of 2%
    - and a density of only 1,8 g/cm.

I don't know what it all means, but it sounds like exciting stuff..
  • You r right it all sounds quite catchy! it's easy to find a Giant for test drive but not the Dedacciai though.
  • Aaaaah that great marketing golden rule...

If you can't dazzle them with brilliance then baffle them with Bullsh1t

    It seems it works!

  • I would go for the giant - when manufacturers start talking about 'modulus' and 'inserts' it's the marketing team talking.

    Good bits:

    - lifetime warranty for you on the frame
    - Full Ultegra groupset
    - excellent build standard
    - relaxed geometry, climbs well - which should come in handy for what you want it for
    - and from what I can gather, they actually want you to test ride their bikes before you buy it

It's not bulls1t - it's basic facts. Whether those facts are of any practical use to the purchaser is another matter but this isn't the made up science of cosmetic adverts.

Oh, you are so right. On the other hand, the following is really cutting to the chase for what really matters isn't it? No marketing team here eh? Who'd even think of riding a bike without a MegaDrive downtube?

"Handcrafted Advanced SL composite material-with Compact Road geometry, an OverDrive 2 steerer tube, MegaDrive downtube and PowerCore bottom bracket-offers the perfect blend of light weight, stiffness and compliance. The integrated seatpost saves 45 grams and adds compliance"
