Hi i recently bought this Groupo
http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/m ... upset.html
And was wondering.
The front shifter has 3 clicks so I would presume you set up the front mech in the small chain ring with the shifter in the first position (1). hook the gear cable up then shift it to the middle position (2) on the shifter so the chain is in the big ring on the 2 x 10 chain set. Wind in the limit screw so you can't shift any further. Problem is when I set it like this the shifter is very stiff to click from 1st click small ring to 2nd click big ring. However if I set it up with the shifter on 2nd click with the mech set to the small chainring then shift to the 3rd click to shift to the big ring, this works absolutely fine, no stiffness. The only down side to this is when hammering jumpy rutty rough runs I sometimes catch the shifter and drop into that first shift position on the shifter (1) which essentially does nothing but when I go to shift up there is an empty shift as the shifter goes from 1 to 2. This can be very irritating in a race situation when you want to quickly shift from small ring to big, you put the power down shift and there is nothing there!
I'm sure their is a much easier way to explain that!

So you would say the first way I set this up would be correct? Might try a new cable as I have tried a few times and it just doesn't work.0

That’s how I do it, but if it works the other way I would just try again.I don't do smileys.

In reply to the OP, no. Shimano shifters can be adjusted from 2 x to 3 x and back. On the underside there is a switch and the instructions included with have details on what to do. If not, go onto the Shimano web site for the tech doc. Once you have it in 2 x 10 mode you can commence setup.0

As simple as that. Excellent I had it set up right originally when the small chain ring was set to the 2nd click on the shifter. The little switch simply gets rid of the down shift into 1st click. I should have known better than to think the big S would leave something like that.
