exposure tracer and trace osm selection?

Just got the these new lights they work great but I am really struggling with the OSM mode selector. Essentially there are supposed to be 3 brightness modes which can be scrolled through by holding the power button down while the light is off. BUT, I seem to be on the dimmest setting . I have somehow managed to select 2 at some point but only by accident. How do you do it, the instructions do not help!
