Here are three bikes with similar specs and I will definitely ride them before choosing but in the meantime I'm interested in any views on how the geometry will effect the handling. Clearly the Radon and Grand Canyon SLX are closer. Thanks.

Not sure how you'll ride 3 direct order only bikes before choosing.......all 3 are classic 29er XC machines with 70 degree head angles, not as extreme as those at 71, but close (and quoted values are never 100% anyway), not much at all between the Radon and the AL6.9, even the ETT is the same (small).
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Thanks, the Radon is 71 and I wondered if that would make much difference. Although they are direct order in UK I live in Germany and could visit the showrooms.

I was looking at the 16" which is 70!

Depends on what you want from the bike really!

I have a 7.9 Canyon 29er, perfect xc bike, and with the big wheels not really a problem on steep descents.

I've been playing around with head angles on my Canyon Nerve 29er by removing the rear shock and using rubber blocks to lock the swing arm. You can go from 65.5 degrees (crank to low to the ground) to 71degrees. A one degree change is noticeable.
As standard the bike is within 1/10th of a degree of Canyon's specs.

  • I suppose that my question is related to the riding position. Both the Canyon AL SLX and Radon are slightly flatter with a shorter front end v the Canyon AL which is a touch more upright. On person has suggested that they are all good for XC but are there any other views. My typical riding will be on fairly fast, open tracks. Generally hard pack earth or gravel and not much in the way of hills. Thanks.
