SPD Boots on flats????

I've put this in the commute as that's my daily ride but this is also to do with weekend road/moutain biking too.
I'm trying to find a shoe that'll keep me comfy & warm through the winter but is waterproof enough (with a good seal at the top) to keep my feet dry all year round - specifically on the commute as putting wet shoes on for the ride home is a little depressing.
The best I've found so far are the:
- Lake MXZ303
- Lake MX145
The proble I'm having is that they're spd's & I use spiked flats (DMR Vaults MTB / Nukeproof Electron Road) due to an old foot injury which requires me to shift its position regularly.
I currently wear Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Shoe which are great.....in the warm/dry.
Help!!

If you don't put the metal cleats on the bottom of the SPD shoes/boots then they are just rubber soled shoes/boots.
I have Shimano ones and they would work fine on flat pedals with the cleats so would definitely work without them.
