Dont know if anyone has any experience of this... I'm heading out to NZ to ride DH for the season in a couple of weeks but i'm struggling to find decent insurance quotes for that period of time, the amounts seem to vary massively. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which companies are reasonable?

World Nomads? Travel Insurance Direct?

Both used by me for winter season cover - but competitive DH racing should be mentioned as I am sure it makes a diference to your cover costs - riding a bike and racing are different and costly at that.
