Looking to buy some bib tights for wearing thro' winter months.
I have had experience of Altura bib shorts with a gel pad in them. They are fairly comfortable and well made for the price.
I was therefore considering buying the Altura 'Night Vision' version in bib tights, any one got any alternatives ?
Has anyone on here got experience of them and what size should I go for, I am 5' 10" and weigh about 72 kg
Thanks

Hi,
I bought a pair of DHB Vaeon Rubaix bib tights from Wiggle last year for about £45 quid. Im normally a bit of a bike snob and used to buy Assos but now prefer Castelli however, the pad in the cheap DHB's is really impressive and on rides around 50 miles or so, I would say they were as comfy as my Assos and Castelli but less than half the price.
I'm 6 foot and about 73kg and the large size fit perfectly.
They have a soft fleece lining and are lovely and warm over the winter months.

Get the DHB and go down one size... I have just bought a pair of Campagnolo ones from Planet X, they were massively discounted but they look about right for the price I paid... happy to be proved wrong, but they don't look like they will outlast the DHB Roubaix, that did 4 wintersleft the forum March 20230

Best to buy tights without a pad, then you can wear your usual shorts underneath and not have to wash the tights every time you use them.
Shorts underneath are also a little bit warmer...0 -
+1 on the shorts and Unpadded tights.0

On the recomendation of a friend I bought some gore leg warmers, much better than wearing 2 sets of clothing and I can use me other pairs of bib shorts rather than just having one pair to go out in. Just an idea for you!Cipollini Bond

I have padded and unpadded tights, definitely would only bother with unpadded in future.
Obviously you can spend what you want but Altura ergofit are excellent for the money.

Really good quality, quite thick lycra, excellent for 'crisp' early morning commutes
I just wear bib shorts underneath, saves washing the tights every day, and a bit of extra warmth wear its needed.strava - http://app.strava.com/athletes/1217847

I only have padded bibtights. As I only have 2 pairs of bibshorts, I'd rather have additional padded tights (in my case 3/4 length and full length tights) for winter and save the (expensive) bibshorts for summer use.
But I'm not someone who commutes 5 times a week and has loads of bibshorts so if I was doing this, then unpadded tights might be better.0 -

I bought some of their Campag ones when they were £60 and think they are OK. Might have a second pair now they are cheaper. Because I do a lot of my winter riding at night, the fact that I'm riding Shimano equipped bikes while sporting a whacking great Campag logo on my left calf will be noticed only by the odd deer or badger.
My DHB roubaix ones have lasted pretty well apart from the bobbling on the @rse from the stitching on a Charge Spoon, and the infuriating ankle zips which keep malfunctioning now they are a couple of years old. In fact it's the foot stirrups / lack of zips that attracted me to the Campag tights.0 -
campag kit is fine, if you can still get hold of it. I bought a load back in Feb/March time.0

Gore Bikewear tights are excellent, very warm. Sizing is big.0

dhb 3/4 get me through winter, aerons or roubaix. The later perfectly good for sub zero riding.0

Got some DHB Vaeon Roubaix Shorts and Bib Tights plus a pair of Gore Bike Wear Oxygen Windstopper + Bib Tights.
The shorts are great for anything in the 10-15c degree range, the bib tights for anything up to 5-10c and the Gore are the best in business for rides under 5c and in extreme conditions (wind, snow and or rain). I don't find the DHB Vaeon Roubaix good enough for sub zero riding personally.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

I'm a big fan of padded tights - they are a lot less restrictive and I find the extra layer of lycra creates a degree of clamminess due to it's rubbish wicking / thermal properties - on longer rides it causes you to chill. Castelli Sorpassos are my choice except for when it's wet or really cold and then the Fluidos come out.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
