Ones that fit YOU, YOUR usage and the amount of insulation YOU need.

I could recommend the ones I use but unless you run as hot as me you will have cold fingers, no-one else I ride with needs as little insulation as me (and no I'm not fat!) - as guidance I commute in baggies and T-shirt only when there is still frost on the ground and air temps at about +3.

On the other hand (you see what I did there) I don't like cold, and ride with ski gloves and thin gloves underneath in really cold weather.

  • I like Gore Windstopper gloves but I like a nice light glove rather than a heavy extra warm glove.
  • Don't ride (bikes) in the winter but when it starts to get cold over here I use a useless pair of Urge Snowboarding gloves which I bought in Andorra many years ago...turns out they are decent cycling gloves...who'd have thunk it

Are you a skier or snowboarder in the winter then ?

Gloves are personal to each of us, I've have some winter gloves that make my hands too warm and get a bit sweaty, must look for some lighter ones

are gloves made in goretex material ?
  • I got cheap ones from Aldi a few years back and they work great
  • Endrua Strikes work for me in the bitter cold and wet. They are a bit too padded for riding with in autumn, but are super toasty, and at £29 are not too pricy.
    Remember Rule #5
  • Aldi have a range of cycling winter gear in store from the 26th september including gloves.
  • I have these, but like they say, they suit me.

Autumn with a slight early morning nip I wear Prendas gloves - Linky

When it gets colder I will wear these with silk glove liners and when it drops even colder I wear my Prendas gloves with DHB winter ones. I wore these twice last year and that was when it was -5 and I was fine.

Fox Antifreeze. They are windproof, which is the important thing and they come with a waterproof liner. I find them great, seem to wear well also.

Snowboarder...and I'm getting pretty excited. First dusting above about 3,000m last week so it's on its way

To the OP (unless they've left the building) -

These 'look' OK and seems like a decent price?

  • I usually use two pairs in very cold weather. Well insulated gloves tend to get too hot, wearing none your fingers obviously get too cold. Two thinner pairs means you can regulate better.

  • Aldi.

Great gloves, only cost about £6. Also, you don't mind trashing them when you fall off!

I bought a pair of these gloves last year, wore them once! also the merino base layer was only 30% merino, 70% acrylic, very cheap looking and feeling. Thats why it is cheap.

Yeah but they 'just work' which is more important that how they look or feel!

I know I already corrected you on the main page about the Aldi offers, but for accuracy's sake, the base layer is 100% merino. It's the merino jersey which is an acrylic/merino mix.

I bought a pair of these at the beginning of winter last year and they're very good at keeping your hands warm. Almost too warm for cycling, and the waterproof membrane doesn't breathe, so once you've warmed up a bit, you'll want to switch to something thinner, but great for very cold starts to stop your fingers freezing before you really get going.

I work as a gardener, and later in the season bought a load of pairs of these when they were reduced. They did a great job of keeping my hands warm and dry, although the waterproof membrane didn't last long against the thorns  For the price you can't beat them, though.
  • 661 storms are bob on for me, keep my hands warm even in sub zero temps. Only shower proof though, not fully water proof
