Mudguards question

Hello, I have a rockrider 5.2 2013 that I use to commute to work and I looking to purchase a set of mudguards. I have changed the bulky off road tyres to pair of 40-559 26 x 1.50 sliks. After searching on line I realised it is not as simple task to choose mudguards, ideally I am looking to purchase something like the SKS Longboard Mudguards or the SKS Chromoplastic but I am not sure if they will fit my bike. If possible I would like to say away from mountain bike style mudguards like the Topeak Defender Mudguard Set M3-M33as I do not think they will provide sufficient cover. Can you please advise if any of the above will fit my bike or suggest an alternative product. Thanks in advance

  • Agreed, MTB guards on anything smaller than 1.9 look daft.

I know, I had an epic combo of SKS Velo Mountain and 1.1 Schwalbe Duranos, worked really well on a rigid but I've since moved them across to a bike with suspension and the front just doesn't work. They also look stupid on small tyres.

The long board is designed for 700c wheels so 26x1.5 isn't going to fill it but should work on the rear at least.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
  • You could fit SKS Chromoplastic mudguards for 26" wheels in the narrower P55 width: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sks-chromopl ... t-prod665/ or SKS Bluemels for 26" in 53mm width: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sks-bluemels ... prod22041/ (there are probably better prices out there). You will need some big P-clips to fit to the fork bottoms and will have to do some bending to get the stays past the disc calipers, but they should work and give the best coverage.
