Tights and shorts - bib or waist?

I ave a fab pair of bibshorts that I really get on with, but as things get cooler I am starting looking at unpadded tights for warmth and maybe a little rain resistance.

When wearing tights with bibshorts is the norm to wear bibtights and thus have two sets of straps, or waist tights end have a waistband?

I am aware of the option of just wearing padded bibtights, but I really do get on with the pad in my shorts.

Thanks,
Paul.

  • Bib shorts and leg warmers is a good way to go

  • Have you considered leg warmers?

I used tights for a while but didn't like the fact that once you're in them, you're in them - which was a pain (and sometimes too hot) for the autumn/end of winter months where the weather fluctuated from cold to warm(ish). I found thermal leg warmers were a good comprimise and gave me the flexbility to take them off/put them on as of and when. And in terms of heat insulation, thermal leg warmers are every bit as good a tights.

If you are considering tights, I would suggest definitely go for the bib variety - this will avoid the pitfalls of a waistband that is either too tight or too loose. If too loose, because of the bib shorts it can be difficult to tell if they are slipping down (no joke!).

I haven't experienced a pair of leg warmers which came anywhere near the thermal performance of my Assos bib tights. As previous poster stated, leg warmers are great for autumn and spring months when winter bib tights can boil you good'n'proper! That's why I have both - the bibs were needed alot more last winter than the previous year!

    Bib bib always bib.

Leg warmers are fine for Spring / Autumn but you really want tights for winter. No pros would go out with just flimsy lycra on their legs when its cold.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at legwarmers. I did try a pair of legwarmers, but found the elasticated top a little uncomfortable - maybe I need to look a little better.

Thanks for the confirmation on bibs - was a little wary of two sets of straps.
