I am looking for a softshell jacket with detachable sleeves for my wife.

I already have Gore Phanton II so want to avoid the twee look. I've found Altura do two models, one ladies specific.

Are there any other recommended makes?

The Rapha softshell is awesome - but no detachable sleeve
    s ....
  • Castelli do one, it's a good jacket with detachable sleeves , not sure if they do a womens specific one, think I got mine from jejames.
It works spring / autumn for me.
The castelli pazzo which my Google fu shows out of stock on last years reduced jacket, for the price of the 2013 I would have the rapha one with sleeves it is an amazing jacket !

Good luck with the search !

Detachable sleeves is a must so I guess that rules out the Rapha :?

I showed her the Altura and they seem to fit the bill. I was warned off the pink version though!

Is it the Altura Transform jacket your thinking of. I'm thinking of getting one of those to replace an aging Aldi softshell and wondering whether they are any good.

Well you already know that the Phantom II is an excellent jacket so why go for something else just because YOU think it will look twee. I bet no one else would even notice your "tweeness".

We already have matching Paramo jackets........

The Altura jackets are a good bit cheaper than the Gore and she doesn't cycle as much as me so there is method in my madness.

Detachable sleeves shouldn't be a must, they're just a sign the jacket doesn't breath well enough. Only reason detachable sleeves would come in handy is if there's suddenly bright sunshine mid-ride and you want to top up you tan. I have a couple of Gore Phantoms and have removed the sleeves on 3 occasions in 3 years, I've used the zips for underarm ventilation a fair bit more but that's because it's just not a very breathable jacket. Try an Assos Habu and you'll realise what you're missing.
